When Balfour Beatty saw that time was going to be their worst enemy, they called on Antigo Breakers to see if there was anything we could do to help.

Removing the 250mm thick cement bound base was easy, just put an excavator mounted hydraulic breaker to the task
.or so they thought! After spending more than a day to break out an area of 120m² Antigo breakers got a call. The Multi-Head Breaker was onsite within 48Hrs and a trial section was completed the same afternoon. It soon became apparent that this 250mm thick pavement was not all that it had first appeared.

Our experienced operator soon recognised that he was dealing with more than 250mm and adjusted the strike centre spacing of the machine to give a product that was broken well enough to allow easy excavation whilst maintaining production rates of 1900m² to 2200m² per shift. It was soon established that the 250mm thick slab had been constructed on an existing pavement of 200mm bringing the total pavement thickness to 450mm. Not only was the operation a lot faster than traditional methods but Balfour Beattys engineers soon found that the material was of a size that could be re-laid as a capping layer in the new construction without the need for secondary processing.
