Project Profile -       Betteshanger Colliery, Deal, Kent, Phase 1

The Project -                 Excavation and processing of hard material on site including
                                   concrete slabs and bases.

Client -                         S.E.D.A The Southeast Development Agency

Principal Contractor -       Brett Construction

Earthworks Contractor -   Ovenden Earthworks

Antigo Breakers were asked to break the reinforced concrete ground slabs to enable the earthworks contractor to easily and efficiently excavate and process this material.
It was agreed that the Multi-Head Breaker [MHB] would be the most efficient machine to use as it could break the 250mm thick reinforced slabs to a size where the majority of the reinforcing could be removed before and not during secondary processing.
Operating the MHB at approx 1,5m/min meant that the slabs were broken to consistently smaller than 200mm in any direction making the removal of any reinforcing as simple as excavating the material and separating it whilst digging. Secondary processing efficiency was increased due to the sizing of the material after a single pass of the MHB, improving crusher throughput and decreasing wear on crusher jaws.
