Date of Works -              23rd February 2004

Maintenance Contractor - Tarmac National Contracting Ltd.

Antigo Breakers were awarded the contracts for the Cracking & Seating of Gurney Road and Reservoir Place by Tarmac National Contracting Ltd., as part of their maintenance contract for Walsall Council. The asphalt overlay had been removed from both roads prior to the Cracking & Seating operations.

Gurney Road, Walsall.
Typical urban estate concrete road constructed approximately 40 years ago, and in more recent years overlaid with asphalt. The failure of the concrete pavement and subsequent asphalt surface required a method of maintenance to reduce reflected cracking in the new asphalt overlay. Cracking & Seating was specified as the preferred method of reconstruction. Areas of the concrete pavement which already showed signs of failure were cracked using a selected method of working within the existing fault lines. Cracking was induced at 1.5 metre centres in the unabridged pavement slabs. The existing traffic calming bumps were left in place.
